On the second Wednesday of each month, (except August) SWIG members meet with the teaching team to discuss upcoming work, and any other issues around the Social Work teaching programme.
In 2009 we held a Creative Showcase event with Year 2 students. the day was an opportunity for the service users to engage with students. Drama, music, art and poetry were used to give students an insight into many service user issues that are not normally covered in the classroom.
The School of Social Work has a number of meetings throughout the year, in order to develop the curriculum. Input from SWIG members is an important part of this development.
We are currently planning an Away Day, probably, because of its excellent accessability, at the Oasis Centre. We also arranged a visit last year to Portsmouth's New Theatre Royal to see the "Still and the Perfect Human" by the dance group Candoco, who have "reinvented the boundaries of dance by proving that virtuosity wasn't confined to the able-bodied."
